In the spirit of providing value and building strong community relationships, welcome to a series focused on highlighting community creatives so we can all get to know, network, collaborate, and support each other a little bit more. This week’s morning Community Creative highlight is David Imel. Here is David in his own words.
Where are you from and what is it like there?
I’m travel full time for work, so I haven’t had a home for about 2 years. I’ve been in 38 countries in 2019, and it’s been a pretty crazy ride. Originally I am from Nevada City, California. It’s in the middle of the forest in the Tahoe National reserve. It’s beautiful!
What type of creator are you (i.e. photographer, model, MUA(H), etc.)? How did you get into it?
I am a photographer, videographer, and writer, as a Journalist. I started as a writer after I left Intel. I hated corporate work and decided I had a really ranty personality, so I decided to turn it into a job! I’ve been doing it for about 6 years now.
Do you do it for fun or professionally? Any success tips for people who may be interested in what you are doing?
Both! I’m a journalist and reporter so I need to do photo, video, and writing for work on a daily basis. I love shooting for fun but I haven’t had an opportunity to in a while. Even though I travel full time.
Anything new or recent you’re working on that you’re excited about?
I’m going to New York, China, Japan, Hawaii, San Fran, Seattle, Nevada City and Vegas in the next month. Most is for work but I’m taking some time in Japan for myself and I want to go north and photograph nature there.
Who inspires you? Where do you get inspiration from?
Jonas Rask is my favorite photographer but my friend Casey inspires me quite a bit. I get my inspiration from good light. Most everything I work with is natural.
What is something random about you?
I dislike things. Over the last 2 years doing journalism from a single backpack I’ve grown to hate owning physical objects. I often feel that our things own us, and it’s hard for me to buy anything physical for myself. I own 7 grey Uniqlo shirts, one black sweater, one black down and one pair of shoes. I know, so edgy. Also, I barely ever post my photos, because I am lame.
What is something you can help other members with? What is something members can help you with right now?
I can help with product photography, writing, video editing, hosting, and vacation destinations haha.
We hope you enjoyed this week’s Community Creative! Stay tuned for next week.
